Helping Seniors Maintain Their Independence

Many seniors want to remain in the comfort of their own home, but everyday tasks can become more challenging over time. AgeWell Connections helps families explore trusted personal care services that provide the extra support needed to maintain independence, safety, and quality of life.

What Are Personal Care Services?

Personal care services provide non-medical assistance that helps older adults remain safely and comfortably in their own homes. Caregivers can assist with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation, and companionship.

Every individual has unique needs. Whether your loved one requires just a few hours of support each week or more comprehensive daily assistance, personal care services can be tailored to help them maintain their independence while giving families added peace of mind.

No, Medicare does not typically pay for Personal Care Services (PCS) that involve help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, or meal preparation. Medicare primarily covers medically necessary services, such as skilled nursing or therapy, but not routine personal care.

However, some Medicaid programs, VA benefits, and other assistance programs may cover PCS costs depending on eligibility.

However, it may cover certain medical services that individuals may need, including:

  • Physician visits

  • Hospital care

  • Prescription medications (under Part D)

  • Short-term skilled nursing or rehabilitation following a hospital stay

  • Some types of in-home health care, if medically necessary.
